    Description

Catherine II, 1762-1796, Unique Pugachev Rouble"Pugachev Rouble" 1771. Novodel in copper
early 19th Century collector and numismatic speculator, Grigori Lisenko notes that in 1810 certain Russian mint employees clandestinely struck various mules and fantasies on a medallic press. Among those were plain edge silver strikes from the Sestroretsk copper Rouble punch. These pieces came to be labelled "Pugachev Roubles" because the coin's name no ruler and the year of the punch used '1771, coincidentally coincides with the year of the Pugachev Rebellion.
